The same thing happens in Danmark on the thirteenth of December, when Lussi, who led the Wild Hunt, the Oskoreia, rode through the air with all her followers. In Pagan times, Lussinatta, Lussi Night, was December 13, the longest night of the year, coinciding with Winter Solstice on the unreformed Julian calendar used before the adoption of the Gregorian calendar. Since then, Lussi has undergone a sea change, and was adopted in the Christian Calendar of Saints as the patroness of this particular night, still holy, and primarily celebrated by young girls and women.
