Something that might interest cyclists and/or fans of EAFOAB...
TV Chef James Martin has apologised for "any offence caused" by a newspaper article he wrote about forcing cyclists off the road as he test drove a car.
"Twenty minutes into my test drive I pulled round a leafy bend, enjoying the bird song - and spotted those damned Spider-Man cyclists. Knowing they wouldn't hear me coming, I stepped on the gas, waited until the split-second before I overtook them, then gave them an almighty blast on the horn at the exact same time I passed them at speed. The look of sheer terror as they tottered into the hedge was the best thing I've ever seen in my rear-view mirror."

Note that he doesn't apologise for the incident itself...which presumably means he's still in desperate need of some re-education / attitude readjustment.

Sadly
Some people feel that they are beyond the law, or that the world owes them a living, or that they can behave like total a******** and we will merely shrug it off.
Education might help but, unfortunately, the world seems to be increasingly populated by those who are thoughtless and selfish.
The achievement of celebrity status only seems to make such behaviour worse.

Damn
I really, really hate that, especially if the driver pushes hard, so the horn is at full volume. Actually, drivers may be getting nicer around here. I don't think I've heard a full volume horn in a long time. Or maybe car horns are now made with a lower max volume. It's always possible that much of the sound energy of the horns are in a range where I've had some hearing loss, but I think I've only lost sensitivity to the highest frequencies.
Even though I know it's a bad idea and unsafe, I almost always give the finger to the driver as e goes past.
Sue, I think that most people who honk at me are bad drivers that were not paying attention, then look up and are startled that I am there, in the road. They hit their horns as a reaction (mild panic?) to their surprise.

Cycles are coming into their own even in the fat rich USA. The proportion of people earning less than $20,000 a year is increasing, and a friend of mine earns $6000 a year. You can not imagine what a sorely depleted existence we have left our children. People need to "get it" and stop this crap. In Portland, we recently had two cyclists struck on purpose, one died, and the other is still in the hospital. One driver is getting what ever for Murder.
I am 62 years old and still ride, because I simply can't walk that far. Those who weigh too much to ride should evaluate if they have a real medical condition that put you there or if it is simply self indulgence. Please do not consider this any sort of abuse to anyone, because I well know that some conditions make it imposible for you to excercise.
My own brother rants and raves at bicyclists when I am in the car with him and I just want to strangle him. He seems to have no idea about the realities now facing us all! SNORT!!!
