Unfortunately that means that I won't be able to post as often as I'd like on F! either.

Not To Worry

Nobody is going to begrudge you the time to settle those awful boring mundane persistent real-life issues, although I'm sure you'll find packing boxes a delightful chore.

'Er indoors just decided to get our place renovated. The translation of that is..."rip out everything inside these four walls and put in new stuff".

The upshot before work can start was that all our belongings (my stuff, not hers) had to be culled and the rubbish thrown out. Never mind that I don't have any rubbish, just 22 years worth of lovingly preserved mementos. So, anyway, I spent two weeks going through my belongings to see what had to be thrown away (sob!).

On numerous occasions I would find myself with say a photograph in my hands, staring into space remembering a long-forgotten tender memory, with a dulcet voice screaming in my ear, "Are you going to sit there dreaming all day?" or I would be looking at something, wondering where the hell THAT came from and what siily bugger decided to keep it. It certainly couldn't have been me. I'm far too rational.

Then, of course, there were all the shrunken clothes. Don't let anyone tell you that they don't make clothes like they used to. The manufacturing methods of 15-20 years ago were incredibly shoddy. Everything from that era has decreased in size by several inches in every dimension. Thank God for the modern stuff which stretches so that one size fits all.

Ah, Nick! I do so envy you the pleasures you have to look forward to. All my belongings now fit into one shoe box.
Good Packing, and we will await your return with bated breath,
Joanne

Packing...

I can remember the initial packing quite clearly and it wasn't pretty. Then we had far less stuff too.

Now between us, we have more things - I don't know what half of them are - than we ever had then and I can see the same nostalgia hitting us. I'm glad we've got some weeks to do it in.

As for fitting everything into a shoe box, I guess that might be possible if all I wore were thigh high boots, but sadly, no. I wouldn't even be able to fit my computer stuff into a box that size and as for the CD's and DVD's we've accumulated...

I too am going to have to throw out the majority of my clothes since despite having been fairly regular of late with the cycling and general keeping fit, I haven't got back to the 32 waist I had way back when, so that's several pairs of trousers not requiring to make the trip and that's before I start on shirts.

I was right about the moving too. Looks like it's going to be multiple trips in a hire van, with your truly at the wheel and probably when Pen's at work too. At least I will be familiar with finding the place after that :)

God I hate this part...

I don't just look it, I'm totally evil
