So an interesting tweet came to my attention just now, and I was kind of surprised not to see it mentioned here on TopShelf.

#TransDayofVisibility

Today is international Transgendered Awareness day. I want to go ahead and post the tweet that caught my attention because it's from someone who's somewhat e-famous.

International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual holiday occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide. The holiday was founded by Michigan-based transgender activist Rachel Crandall in 2009 as a reaction to the lack of LGBT holidays celebrating transgender people, citing the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centered holiday was the Transgender Day of Remembrance which mourned the loss of transgender people to hate crimes, but did not acknowledge and celebrate living members of the transgender community.

In 2014, the holiday was observed by activists across the world — including in Ireland and in Scotland.

So, yeah. Help spread the word. This has been a thing since 2009. It needs more positivity and visibility, as do we. :-)

I've lived "closeted", afraid and ashamed for most of my life. My parents still don't know because I'm not ready to tell them yet. But I'm still learning not to be ashamed or afraid because of this community. I met my fiancé and life partner because of this community.

*hugs*

...fiance' has a nice ring to it; no pun intended. God bless your sweet hearts! So many folks have proven to be brave! I wish I could.
