Lesley Gore might not be an icon to a lot of people but she is to me. I grew up listening to her music and she touched a special spot in my soul. Not the best looking girl, but BOY, could she sing! Lesley Gore began her careeer in music in 1963 with "It's My Party" and stole my heart.

RIP Lesley. You brightened my life.

I liked just about everything she recorded. I remember in the mid 60's when I was in the navy, and playing Monopoly with the neighbors that we always sang "You Don't Own Me" anytime someone else would land on property that we owned.....

Seems like I remember a DJ remarking he didn't know why she did any recordings as she was heiress to one of the ladies swimsuit companies (Catalina, I think?). I don't know about that, but I am glad she graced us with her music.

Don't let someone else talk you out of your dreams. How can we have dreams come true, if we have no dreams?
