Hi all,
I have a question almost of 'site etiquette' I guess.
Julina ..., Book 1, is complete. It ended after chapter 40.
I have the next three episodes written, and more underway. The timeline prevents them being released quite yet.
Here is my B I G question:
Now when I do start in on Book 2, do I start 'chapter' numbers back at 001, or do I continue from where we left off, and start at 041?
If I do the former, then I can leave it as Book1, Book 2 etc, but if I choose the latter, then it would have to be 'Volume1', 'Volume2' etc.
Is there a preference out there?
I have a subsidiary question too, on another subject, briefly touched upon up above.
The timeline, to be specific. Much was happening in Palarand and the Great Valley during that last month of the year.
Would there be any interest from any of you, for that timeline of the final month of the year to be posted showing the various threads that were going on?
Thanks in advance,
Julia.

Numbering
In my opinion, if you are going to set up JoB as separate discrete books then go ahead and start with chapter one again. Or, you can set up JoB like Penny has set up SEE.
I agree with Brianna on the numbering
As for a timeline, a reference to the canon at the beginning of the book should be sufficient. Problem, is Penny's canon has very little explicit dating of each section of her story, other than some sparse dates woven into the tale itself.
Lack of dating
That's partly because, for a very long while, there was no real dating!
I can't believe I got that far without tripping over myself somewhere. Needless to say, there are a very small number of inconsistencies in SEE which should be "adjusted" whenever I get around to editing the finished product.
I have to thank Julia for cracking the whip and making me knuckle down to producing a timeline. Once JoB began intersecting with SEE it was absolutely essential, and now we both keep to that one timeline.
Of course, said timeline is full of spoilers, and changes frequently, so it wouldn't be possible to post that document here. However, it might be possible to supply something which covers major timepoints once we are done or almost done with our stories.

Numbering
When I first began writing SEE I expected it to be a single book and thus didn't bother about breaking down the chapter numbers.
Now it has evolved into (at present count!) six books the existing numbering has to stay. If/when I ever write any more "Tales of Anmar" such as Armsman of Joth then I'll restart the numbering for each new story.
If you have ever read The State does not make mistakes then you'll know that the chapter numbers continue throught that. What isn't apparent is that there are actually three separate books there, detailing different parts of Marion's story. It looks like I have form numbering my stories.

Sorry, Don't Have a Strong Opinion
You can start the numbers over or continue them as Penny has done. Either way really works fine. I don't feel the need for a timeline, but it could be good for some I think. I noticed in a few of the SEE comments that some people weren't aware of the interaction of the companion stories. A timeline could possible help there (but of course people would have to look at it).
Thanks again for your fine Julina series and all the work you are doing on the index.
Your story, your choice...
...but unless there's a reason to distinguish between what's gone before and what's new, I'd favor continuing with 'Book 1' and keeping the ongoing sequence. If the story is about to take a significant turn, change the numbering system to reflect that change.
As to the timeline, I don't feel a recap is needed. I'd wager that most readers of JoB are readers of SEE and vice-versa. I'm just thankful that both continue and at such high quality.
No, no - I didn't make myself clear!
I didn't mean to post the WHOLE timeline, just the timeline for one of the months. The last month of the year. There would be no spoilers in that, since it has all been posted already.
Sorry for not making it clear from the outset.
J.
On Today's Page
On today's index there are two series using the Book/Chapter convention, Gabby and Omega Unicorn. There are also two using the continuous chapter numbers, Bike and SEE.
So the convention is evenly divided. Myself, I would go for the Book/Chapter.
