First time I've used this blog thing so I hope I get it right. Earlier today I was watching a television documentary on the Ironman/woman races. One man had advanced ALS but he finished the 2 mile swim, a 120 mile bike ride and then a 26 mile marathon.
As he crossed the finish line he said his mantra was 'If you don't face your fears then you cannot live your dreams.'
It struck me as something well worth thinking about in our own lives.

Reminds me of Jane Tomlinson who died in September from metastatic breast cancer, whose repsonse to learning she was terminal was to start a series of physical challenges to raise money and awareness. She completed London and New York marathons, an Iron Man triathlon and cycled across Europe, America and Africa. She raised £1.5M for charity.

it's often easier...
... to dwell on the little troubles and even the not so little that beset us. Then you see or hear about something like this and get a big dose of humble. A guy facing something most of us cannot imagine, a dwindling horror of a disease with no reprieve. I have my worries and troubles but essentially I'm healthy and not too untogether, though maybe that's relative. Perspective is a funny thing and it can certainly help to move about and look from different angles. Thanks for the nudge to do so Anne

I think it was the Hawaiian Ironman on the big island
The Ford sposored site might have something as it as just run a few weeks ago.
I remember a fit man got ALS, entered the race and barely made it. The next year his brother ran for him as he could barely stand. A year later he was dead. If you see people roll the last few yards it is in tribute to him.
