So, hi. It’s been a while. A long while, actually. Like, a year and nine months. In that time, my life has undergone some really great and scary changes.
I came out to my wife as questioning my gender identity in October 2023. Needless to say, after 16 years of marriage, it was not well-received. However, she didn’t immediately kick me out of the house or file for divorce. Instead, she asked questions and began to do her own research into gender dysphoria. (Did I mention that she’s always been an Ally?)
In January 2024, I finally confirmed that I was a transgender female and made an appointment to see a GP about starting HRT. I found a supportive, understanding doctor who went over the full informed consent information with me before prescribing estrogen and anti-androgen.
Since then, I have joined several trans support groups in my area and begun making friends with those who are going through what I am. My wife has also reached out to family support groups and has come to be my chief supporter in this journey.
We have decided to tell the family (starting with our children) sometime in the next two months. After that, I will begin the process of legally changing all my documents to my new name and living my life as my true self for the first time in 54 years.
Groups such as BCTS and others have allowed me to work out my mental conundrums through the medium of storytelling, and I believe that has helped me navigate this journey to being who I really am. So thank you for that.
Here's hoping to entertain you with many more stories in the future.
Hugs and Kisses,
Evelyn (Evie) Johnson
