When I was a teenager, some drugs were all the rage. They weren't so addictive or deadly but Purple Hearts were for sale at many of the places that young people hung out at. I never partook. I really don't know why not but alcohol and tobacco were my drugs of choice at that time. I even passed up on marijuana a couple of years later.

You would be approached regularly with the illicit stuff so I can see how one could be trapped.
