Or what Maddy did next
So for the last few days we have been based in Hamburg, I say based, so far we’ve not seen much of the place beyond the Hauptbahnhof! Instead we’ve been out and about exploring.
Thursday we went to Lueneberg @ an hour to the south. It was hot and sunny as we explored the old salt town founded in the 11th century and home to the oldest ‘potions’ shop in the world which dates from the 16th century.
Friday we headed east to Schwerin, seat of the Mecklemburg government. It was a bit overcast but still quite warm, a bus tour took us around the more distant highlights and around the lakes.
Yesterday we headed north to Kiel on the Baltic coast. Another bus tour took us along the fjord to the Kiel canal and through the leafy suburbs, the RAF did a very thorough job, there literally isn’t very much that survives from pre 1939. On the way back we stopped at Neumunster, a much nicer place but still not exactly a tourist destination. Back in Hamburg the Pride event was in full flow until a thunderstorm had everyone running for shelter!
Today we’ll be exploring Hamburg on foot and by bus, it’s a big city with quite a bit to see!
I’ve had a few moments remembering trips to these places with both parents but part of the reason d’etre for this break is to make new memories and I think we are doing that.
We start our journey back on Wednesday but before that we have a day at Miniatur Wunderland, the record breaking model railway, and another to ghe Hanseatic port of Lubeck and Travemund, its seaside resort.
So that’s me for now, if I can get get internet access I’ll post another update on Wednesday but for now, tschuss,
Madeline Anafrid
