For those of you following Penny Lane's Tales of Anmar, I thought you might find this interesting.
While surfing the web tonight, I came across this picture of an ancient form of a rhino, a variant that could well be the Frayen of Penny's Tales of Anmar. It's called an Amynodon.

Looks good but I don't think

Looks good but I don't think it has enough legs though. Don't Frayan or Drahnk have 6 legs?

Six Legs

Only the gavakhan has six legs. The frayen and dranakh have four.

Six legs

There are many creatures on Anmar that have six legs. All of the avian species have six limbs, even if two have evolved into wing-like structures.

Several of the food animals, including but not limited to gavakhan, are six-legged, and that includes smaller creatures such as labris (the Anmar analog of rats) and possibly grennis (the analog of dogs).

Towards the end of SEE #65 there is a reference to "a carcase the size of a wild boar roasted on a spit - except this carcase had six legs" so gavakhan aren't the only six-legged food animals. There is another reference in SEE #72 when Garia inspects the kitchen in the Ptuvil's Claw.

Frayen

A real live frayen!

I have my daughter working on a Ptuvil. If we could find a dranakh we’d have a zoo!

This is a start

I think it's a great way for us to visualize just what this world we have come to love. Maybe we can create a zoological note book with some one inside of Penny's circle to ride herd on the project.

As to how many legs this critter should have is on my present list to do as I reread the series from the beginning.

With those with open eyes the world reads like a book

Great Find

That's a really great find and could well fit in easily with the known facts.

Also great to know there are people out there with time on their hands... :)

Well done!

Fleshing to the story

It isn't so much of having time on our hands but consider it deeper than usual research to add to the story.

Thank you

As I was reading Tales again (I started with chapter 1 about 2 weeks ago), and the thought just struck me to check the evolutionary records. I did find an early Hippo that sort of resembles a dranakh, it's called a Forstercooperia. (for those who want to look it up.) But I think that one's a bit skinny.

Yes, I do have time on my hands, so I will be continuing my search for animals and places that might resemble what we are reading about. And I'll post them as I find decent ones.

Glad you all enjoyed the picture and I'll be glad to help however I can should you decide it's worth the effort.

Hippos

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. (Huh? Dranakh don't bark, and I don't think they can climb trees, but you know what I mean...)

While frayen could reasonably be said to originate from the same place that modern-day Earth rhinos did, for dranakh you might need to look somewhere else entirely :)

The origins of dranakh will become clear(er) sometime later on in SEE.
