I have looked through the FAQ page but didn't find the answer to one question. Is there a way to track a story to know when the next chapter has been posted? Or is the only way to know is to look at the home page?

You can subscribe to the RSS feed but all that really does is provide an abbreviated version of the front page.
I haven't found a good solution for adding such a feature to BC. I'll keep an eye out for one.

I see. If I may offer a solution, I may have an idea that works. Make use of the favorites list and whenever a new chapter is linked to that story an email is sent to everyone who favorited the story telling them a new chapter is out. There could also be a notification in the favorites list showing new chapters as well for those who don't check their emails and/or don't want an email sent to them.
That is writing custom code, we don't do that
Your solution would involve writing quite a bit of code. We don't do that here. Custom code is why Sapphire's Place and Crystal's Storysite are down now or not being updated. It's why FM was down for most of a year while the code was updated to run on a different machine. We use canned code with only minimal modifications. It's why we have the best up and running record in TG fiction sites for the last ten years. :)
However, I did some looking and am testing some canned code that may provide some capabilities along the lines requested. Keep watching this space. :)

story checking
what i do is bookmark the authors story title page then check it like i do email.
new chapters show a different color.

well if I understand this correctly when erin said they were testing something new she was referring to the new notification system that showed up right after erin posted here. check your account page under notifications. I have put multiple stories under there and im waiting for anyone of them to update and see if it works
