Every once in a while, something comes along that restores my faith in humankind and makes me think that maybe some parents are doing an okay job with their kids.

My wife is an elementary school teacher and over-heard an exchange between two kindergarteners and the new principal. One boy is white and other is a recent immigrant from Africa. I'll call the white boy Andy the the other Jonathan. This is paraphrased, but the gist is right.

The boys were sitting at a lunch-room table and the principal sat down with them an introduced himself. Andy looked at him, a bit puzzled, and said, "I thought you were brown, like Jonathan."

The principal asked why he should be brown and Andy answered, "'Cause the president's brown."
