Beat me to it!

I just saw that pop up in my G+ feed and was about to blog it - along with a very similar comment! :)

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

Given the circumstances,

are they literally skirting an issue? = )

Either way, I'm glad that they wax their legs first. Leg hair clashes horribly with skirts, and all body hair is just plain "eurgh".

In many parts of equatorial far East, it would be very odd indeed for men to wear anything but sarong. :)

Bad move

These men are doing this for the shock value. Implied in their protest is the idea that men in skirts are disgusting so let us wear shorts. This is counterproductive as it reinforces dress stereotypes. Another step backwards for the trans movement. They don't want the right to wear whatever clothing they desire, they are holding up crossdressers et al. as freaks so permitting shorts is the lesser of two evils. If the railway were to permit men (and women) to wear skirts, but not shorts this protest would quickly die out.

Yikes!

That's a heck of a lot to read into a story that has no given details that would support it. Are you sure that you are not making your conclusion your starting supposition? This isn't happening in the US but I can't see getting people used to seeing men in skirts as anything but positive for the support of gender differences. Using your reasoning above there is nothing that could be incremental progress that could not be seen as a step backward.

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.

in fact!

The article specifically states that the company involved has STATED that they don't have a problem with skirts on the men, they only take issue with shorts.

I still think the companies policy short sighted and silly. There are plenty of dressy shorts styles out there, and I believe that's their main point of the policy. They're trying to maintain a "dressy" dress code.

As for the men... Good on them! They aren't afraid to wear skirts if that's what it takes to keep comfortable while maintaining dress code. That takes some guts. And as far as I can see, it can only mean positive things.
