I have a sequence in a story I am working on and just don't know what the term or name of the crime for the attackers offense would be. It could be anywhere from agravated assault to attempted murder. Could someone PM me?

Hi Name of the crime may vary

Hi

Name of the crime may vary from one country to another.

Can help with UK/Australian but not USA.

Could help if I wasn't a total muppet and unable to locate the PM menu :(

Sending a PM

It's right under the blog entry: "Send Author a Message".

Penny

PM

I must have my screen setup wrong or something as I don't seem to have that

"Send Author a Message".

option on any of the blog entries

I think...

That in this case it is not actually user error, but rather something with the server... I do not see an option to message Lythande at all either. I am thinking that somehow Lythande is missing permissions to use the PM system.

IMO, you should try to let Erin or someone know that you can not use the PM features.

The link

The link appears for me... One thing I've noticed is that it seems to move around... One time it'll be the first link. Another the last, etc.

Try a different browser, perhaps.

I do not believe we are speaking of the same fruit.

I believe I am speaking of oranges and you of apples.

I can send Gwen a message, I can send you a message, I can send Penny a message, and I can send Bev a message. Heck, I even have a link to message myself, though I can't imagine why I'd wish to do so! *grin*

What I'm NOT seeing is a link to send Lythande a message. So my assumption is that NO ONE can send Lythande a message excepting only PERHAPS someone with moderator privileges. At the same time, Lythande is also unable to send ANYONE a message at all.

So while you and I are both able to send each other and other people with access to private messaging such, and those are the apples, Lythande's being faced with oranges.

(I arranged the fruit in that order because I personally favor apples, and so wished to use my preferred fruit as the "this is working right" portion of the allusion.)

Yes...

Yes, you are correct.

Even if you go to Lythande's user page, the link to send a message isn't there. (only been a member 1 day and 13 hours, at the time I looked. Perhaps the ability to send messages appears after some admin action has been taken or time has past.) I misunderstood who you were trying to send messages to. Sorry.

Hi Gwen ... Hate Crimes.

In UK Gwen, if anybody attacks somebody because of their perceived differences, (i.e. race, colour, faith, gender, sexuality etc) then it is called A HATE CRIME and it is dealt with very severly by British Police these days.

I'm still reading your emailed chapter but I'm up to my neck with my Pa-in-law and the broadband connection by dongle to his house is very, very slow/poor.

Hugs.

It depends...

It depends on what the perpetrator did and the jurisdiction. There is some variation around the country. Yes, most have aggravated assault and murder/attempted murder, but some parts of the country call some of the others by different names, and from what my brother said, some have "inside" nicknames that bear little resemblance to the official one.

So, if you don't find someone from the area where your story is placed, you might just want to either call or write to a local police department in that jurisdiction. Tell them that you're writing (or trying to) a story that involves a crime, and you wanted to add a bit of realism by using the right terms for various points... Thank them in advance, and lay out the things you'd like terms for. Believe it or not, many are more than happy to help. It's good PR for the department, if for no other reason.
