For many who frequent BC, a goal has been to achieve the unattainable.

We come to BC frustrated. We deem ourselves to have too many male secondary sex traits to succeed in a physical transformation.

For a while we read TG fiction to lose ourselves in a world that somewhat resembles where we ache to be. We closely identify with the protagonist and for a moment . . . know what it would be like to magically cross over.

For many a next step is to try our hand at writing. Some find that they can break down barriers and actually experience whatever they wish by making it so through fiction.

Often authors realize that their readers cheerfully join them in their make-believe, enhancing the experience.

Also many times -- authors blog and comment, declaring their opinions and forming an online persona.

That persona is who we wish to be . . . we’ve made it.

When people unwittingly damage that persona through uncaring remarks we become viciously guarded. And who wouldn’t . . . when one of the most precious things in our lives is placed in jeopardy. We’ve spent a life wishing and hoping and have reached a degree of success . . . and don’t want to lose what we’ve worked so hard to build.

At least that’s how I see it . . . today.

Sticks and stones

I believe that if the good ol country doctor in Minnesota had though it over and decided to not appease my dad i would have grown up female. I would not have been able to have children but at least the turmoil I went through may nothave happened.
I am at the moment doing my best to get doctors to agree that surgery for me is not going to be a detriment.
My life has delath witn discrimination, people telling me I can't be me. I've heard things that I will never repeat but they hurt. I went through sexual harrassment on board my first ship.
I've learned that "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." is not true, When spewed words cannot be retracted.
I often beleive I am tuff skinned due to all of the humiliatiion I have endured. Then in a moment of sanity I realize I am a female. It took my writing of stories and poetry to get me to look inside. I may look like a genetic male butthat is all that is considered male. My hormones and chromosomes and my psyche personality is female.
If one cannot say something good about someone else then it is not worth saying.

Words

Many, many years ago, I read a story which (amongst many other things) dealt with what are basically insults. I can't remember the book, my memory, while still reasonable, isn't photographic by any means, and like many here there are things I'd rather not remember...

Basically, the response to an insult was this: "If what is said to you is true, then it cannot be an insult. It must instead be a compliment and can be taken so. If what is said to you is not true, then it must be false, and if it is false, then it cannot apply to you and can be ignored completely."

That philosophy is tough to follow, and for those who have a feminine empathy even tougher, but it has value. There have been occasions when it has served me well.

I agree completely!

It's sad

that without thinking we can spoil things for ourselves. I like to think that this is a place which is a little more civilised than the outside world, where common courtesy still exists because we all wish it to be so, thus supporting its founder.

It doesn't take much to rock that boat and there is a risk that if it capsizes it won't refloat. We need to take more care of how we deal with each other and as my mum used to say, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

To snipe at another for whatever reason is very low.

Their comments are of no importance.

When people try to demean others with hurtful comments it only reveals their own feelings of insecurity.

Never rise to their jibes as it only encourages them to inflict their own misery upon others.

They are the ones to be pitied for their lack of empathy for others.

The only negative opinions which hurt me are from those I love and/or respect. Usually it is constructive criticism which I will consider.
