Looking for a fashion/color expert :-)

Alright, so I'm not going to just post a picture of myself for anyone who clicks on TopShelf to have access to, but is there anyone out there with experience in color flow charts that would mind taking a look and telling me if my assessment (Deep Winter, though I used to be more of an Autumn) is far off?

I'm looking at going part time some time in the next six months, but I'm starting now on building a small wardrobe. Whether or not I'm able to go part time will depend heavily on if I'm living here six months from now, but I have two concerned friends who don't want me living here anymore, so... we'll see what happens :-)

Also, according to my research I should look good in lipstick colors like true red, which just doesn't sound right to me. Plum and mahogany maybe, but true red seems too loud, bordering on obnoxious :-P

ANYway!

Thanks,
~Zoe

It All Depends Zoe

There is a scale to determine skin types called the Fitzpatrick. Your skintone, eye color and hair color play a part in determining your colors. Send me a PM with you hair color, eye color and skintone and I will look at my Esthetics books with the color wheel in them. Make up was my strongest skill in classes. I will help you any way I can.

Hugs,

Jen

Fashion/ Color Experts

My advice is to go to a professional makeup store Such as MAC, Ulta Or Sephora and ask for a Private consultation. It might cost you a fewDollars but it is well worth the cost. You Might want to call first and make sure they have a Private consultation room and make sure they are comfortable working with TG clients. Most of these places are more than happy to help as they are looking to make a big sale.

Don't think Sephora had any private rooms

at least in my neck of the woods in north-eastern US. My understanding is that MAC has always been pretty good with Ts but that is just what I've read. I don't have an issue with passing so I do not have comprehensive knowledge about the private consultation room for the major makeup places. The last consult I went through was in the middle of a busy department store at the Chanel counter and I wound up with quite an audience watching me *shrug*.

Most makeup places in the department stores don't have a privite room most are good with the TG community though but its good to call & check. If they are ok with it then make an appointment.

Not an option right now, but

But that's something I strongly considered doing anyway if I am able to move somewhere else where it does become an option. :-D (And it looks like it could be, but I'm getting ahead of myself with that :-))

Wardrobe

On, come on...

Where any woman is concerned, whatever her origins, there is simply no such thing as a small wardrobe!

I am constantly appalled how large my own wardrobe has become and it's still less than half the size of my (female) partner's. What's even worse, of course, is I can never find anything appropriate in mine to wear!

Think big, and then double it! You'll still underestimate :)

Right now I'm just trying to build up enough to get by. I started to create a wish list on Amazon just for giggles, on the exceptionally unlikely chance that a random stranger wanted to be nice, but unfortunately they force my ship-to name to be plastered across the list, and I can't ship to Zoe Taylor without everyone in the town knowing something funny's going on (because everyone knows everyone's business here. It's like Mayberry *giggle*), soooo I'm just working on getting what I can to get by with for now :-D

I agree though. Ideally I would love to just go huge and buy a whole new wardrobe, and I continue to enter sweepstakes knowing I'll never actually win, but hoping I might pick up a small shopping spree gift card at some point to help things along :-)

Fashion Colors

Um well, don't wear too many different colors. I try to stick to no more than two or three. Lots of people like to put me in dark colors but they just kill my spirt so I try to wear very light, but subdued pastels. I dress mostly by my emotions. If I like my appearance and it is good enough, somehow I often taste it or I get this emotional surge.

I do have a Black Abaya and a black Hijab but that is mostly for when I am feeling like I wanna look holier than thou. LOL

My roomates say I am a pink person, and um yup that is certainly part of the story, but it is not for everyone. I try to be extremely girly and I likes it. :)

There is a chart, that helps with that because you don't really want to wear fashions from different groups.

As for your skin color, I just went into Macy's and got them to tell me. Of course they wanna sell you some make up too but you don't have to buy it. I do use MAC concealer for my wine stain chin, and a bit of lippy, and mostly that is all I wear. In makeup, just look around you, at women your age. Mostly less is more.
