So, something's come up in my life as potentially very, VERY positive. I just don't know if it's a step in the right direction or not.
I found out through, of all people, the mother of someone I went to school with and haven't seen in years, that there are special services for the blind for adults now, who can teach me a trade and help me get a job with the US Government. It would apparently all be paid for too.
The caveat is that I'd have to live in Little Rock. ;-)
I still don't know what I want to do with my life, but I know that if I ever want to move forward, I need to get out of here, so the "move to Little Rock" part works out well, with the added benefit that the one therapist I want to see also works out of Little Rock, so that's bonus #2.
I don't really know what I'm afraid of, exactly. The thought that I could have a real shot at transitioning, that things aren't all just "I wish" anymore, but "I could" now? I don't know. I guess I should take it one step at a time and focus on stability first.
At least this would put me where I could see a real therapist, and go from there.

Someone...
Someone that lived in Little Rock ended up in the White House, you know... :-)
Good Luck.
Anne
Hmmm...
First TG president? Though I'd settle for "feel like a normal human being".
I don't know (yet) what kind of work we're talking about, other than that the FBI was mentioned, which would be really cool. I'm going to at least look into it and find out more about it, not just in terms of what they do, but living arrangements and stuff.

Sounds promising
It sounds like it could be promising and taking it one step at a time seems a good idea. I transitioned working for local government in the UK and the environment was supportive and hopefully it would be the same with the US Government (and Special Agent Zoe has a nice ring to it!).
Fingers crossed it works out for you.

One hopes the training isn't with Monica Lewinski, although then poor eyesight might prove useful :)
Seriously, I wish you good luck and hope they can do something to help.

Little Rock
There are services for the blind or visually impaired here. There are also many apartments that qualify for public housing. If you need for me to look at something for you, I would be glad to do it. The public transportation is pretty good. Just give me a PM.

Thanks Portia! :-D
I'll let you know when I find something more out. I'm not sure how the LWSB handle the housing thing. My big concern is getting in writing exactly the services they do provide. I stopped working with the Arkansas School for the Blind when I was still a teenager, after one of their representatives assured me they'd help me arrange transportation to college, then when I was ready to enroll, she told me they couldn't help with that, among other things.
It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth so I resolved to not bother asking for help anymore, but things are different now (and I'm not a manic-depressive bitch anymore :-D)
It's funny. I've never lived anywhere that had it, unless you count the one bus to Ft. Smith once a day, so the thought of a regular, reliable transit system is as much a huge positive for me as anything.
I've been reminded twice today that Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" is the story of my life. And like the song says, I won't forget where I came from, but I need this, too. I need to be somewhere where I can spread my wings, where going to the grocery store doesn't involve a two mile hike back to town just because I can't drive. :-)
ANYway! I'm in rambling mode again. Think I'll put some of that energy into rewriting the last chapter of Robin that my computer devoured last night.

Go for it!
Zoe, I think your anxiety is normal, we are all nervous about change, but everything you've said makes it seem like a GOOD change. I think it's a door to a good opportunity. Go for it!
