Ironic Timing

The timing of this piece could not have been more ironic. You see, I have just been thrown under the bus by a person running for congress who I was working for because someone linked the real world professional me with Nancy Cole and my stories I post here.

The candidate wanted me to stay with the campaign, but in the 'background,' (i.e. read closet). Without them saying so, they admitted to having a desire to continue using my expertise and time without having to stand up and make a principled stand.

I look forward to seeing how Donna Milo does, for I too am a Republican. (I'll bet that comes as something of a surprise to a lot of you.)

Any who, stay safe and sane.

Sorry that happened

But, it might be interesting to find out how they made the connection.

It's sad when politicians are so consumed by "public opinion"

I admit surprise that trans folks

would still think the Republicans truly would support any non-conventional social agenda. The gentle moderate Republican party died with the start of Reagan's administration. It was during that time that they have started to draw in all those social conservative elements to bolster their ranks but the side effect is that the party became radicalized. A true social conservative is basically a bible thumper so why in shit should I support that. I true social conservative would consider the trans community a bunch of misguided freaks who need to be changed and rehabilitated and 'go back to the ways of the lord' or for the more charitable conservatives, people merely to be pitied.

They are also a non-productive nay saying party right now in congress, who always vote as a block and usually not for the good of the country in my opinion, seeing how George Bush's environmental legacy being one example.

Sorry, I have absolutely no respect for them, what so ever.

Yeah, there are other people who support them due to being second amendment fanatics and fiscal conservative extremists but any person who loves their country should place the social needs of the people beyond the mere concerns of Maman and what they consider an unlimited right to access dangerous weapons. There is no such thing to an unlimited right to anything, not speech, not happiness. There are no 'guarantees'.

Two groups of Republicans

And those are the social conservatives and the libertarians. The libertarians believe in small government and in personal choice for citizens. Social conservatives believe in the former and the later to some extent, except where in comes into conflict on issues like abortion, etc. The differences between these two groups are never likely to be reconciled.

I'm a registered Democrat who writes or has written at conservative, military, or libertarian blogs. My less than supportive views of the right to life Catholic church(Namely pointing out their hypocrisy) got my posting privileges taken away at one conservative website.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are hypocritical on some issues.

BTW I think Wasserman-Schultz, who represents the Florida 20th Congressional District, is my sister-in-law's congress person. I live about 60 miles to the north in the Florida 16th CD.

Look at the bigger picture

There is no point supporting one of them even if you were certain they were the second coming, it is pointless enabling the overall party through one individual because when the chips are down they will all band together and take the same line and you can be certain that line will always fall on the dark side of anything positive for LGBT rights. My friends are mostly conservatives, we are all for guns, constitution rights, individual freedoms and many of the tenants of the R party, BUT I'd not vote for one if they were my best friend, I'd vote a straight D ticket if the christian devil himself headed the party just because the the alternative could be too costly in my personal rights and freedoms.
It was mentioned elsewhere on this site that our conservative christians are no different than the radical muslims, they would put their own christian version of sharia into law given half a chance.

I'd say any minute now Erin is going to shut this whole thread down :)

I voted for the Democrat devil

Twice. Kinda made me sick. The guy made my skin crawl from day one, but said he'd put gays in the military & stop global warming & stuff.

I think most conservative LGBT people know the score regarding their party, but see the economy and people's freedom to choose which doctor they can't afford to go to and other issues as more important to the country than their own self interest. In its intent it's admirable.

However she votes or whatever she does, I think this candidate will be a good thing, opening minds of some people that wouldn't be opened otherwise. She's a transsexual that will maybe seem perfectly sane + normal to them. Not some jabbering tree hugging Kathy Bates
in a tie-dyed mumu like me.

~~~peace love dope, Laika
Well, she won't get my vote...
Partly because I don't live in that district, but if I did, she still wouldn't. I'm not gonna go on a political rant here, but I think that's right up there with Log Cabin Republicans.
I fail to understand why someone would espouse the positions of a party which is very clear and vocal(And too often physical) about their hatred of LGBT people. Strikes me as right up there with Jews joining the Nazi party.
No surprises here
This is shaking out just about the way I epected it would. Mention "republican" and immediately almost everybody starts frothing at the mouth. When are people going to realize that neither party has the interests of the people in mind? They will do or say whatever it takes to get elected or reelected, then shed any group that might prove inconvient at a later date.. If need be, they will again court any minority that might help keep them in power. Witness Obama's sudden decision to throw a bone to the gay and lesbian community after basically ignoring us for two years.. Tight election coming up - SURPRISE!
Notice I did not include the Transgender community in the above? That's because the GLB people already threw the T people out last year in their attempt to get some legislation through Congress. Again - SURPRISE!
So don't expect ANY political party to back us, because there is no political profit in it for them unless they need our votes. Instead, vote for the candidate who best represents your values. To my mind, an openly T candidate is at least worthy of consideration. Blindly voting a straight party ticket is handing that party a permission slip to steal all of us blind.
Think - Decide - Vote. They hate that.
I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.
Omega Girl
You're 100% correct.
This morning Al Franken was pimping hiself on public radio about his TG - friendly anti-bullying legislation. He couldn't answer even the most basic questions about what was in the bill.
http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2010/05/20/Senators_...
I didn't vote for him or the Rep. that ran against him. The independent got my vote because I'm sick of mainstream polictics.
I'm with you, Angela
I heard Franken's radio interview about the anti-gay bullying bill this morning. The bill was a nice idea, but when you're the author don't you suppose answering a question with 'I'm not exactly sure what the bill the says' is a pretty bad sign. It reminded me why I voted for the third party candidate last election. It made me feel good that I was one of the Dems who didn't vote for Franken and made him sweat it out for a few months while the courts decided who won.
Another story today from MN was my Democratic state senator. He threw a questionable provision about a fishing regulation that only applies to one of our 15,000 lakes, and big surprise, it happens to be the lake his cabin is on. I have met with him as Alison a few times. He is very supportive of GLBT issues, but he is pretty weird. This year he was trying to convince me and the guy that was with me that we should join up with a group called the Pink Pistols that he had heard of. While we waited, he pulled up their website and read to us about them. They are gay people who conceal and carry handguns to deter gay bashing. Thankfully the conversation ended after a few minutes when he was called for a vote. He's a supportive Democrat, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone new. That said, many Republicans in this area have said some pretty hateful things about GBLT folks, though not all. As Omega Girl pointed out: Think - Decide - Vote. They hate that.
It is sad (a small rant)
It is so sad that even after more than 55 years after Christine Jorgensen first returned to New York, that the people of the US make such a 'deal' people just wanting to be who they really are. And it is the less than tolerant religious folk who believe that they know 'God's Will' that sadden me the most. Hugs to all of you who write here. Wendy Marie
