Recapcha

So, I use the Brave browser when I only want to check for what's new on BC in a quicker fashion (there is a lot higher lag when one is logged in unfortunately) which seems to do a pretty good job of blocking tracking by websites.

Now I am getting this whole recapcha thing which I dislike since I am providing a free service to google to train their AI in image recognition. It also defeats the purpose of my desire to check quickly.

Is BC being that inundated with bots that this is really necessary?

Hmm...

I don't know about bots per se, but I've noticed over the last month that the same Part of one of my posted books (Part 5, Book 4 for those curious) is getting 10+ hits each day. Which is far and above the hits all the other sections of the book (or any of the books) are getting.

So either someone is reading Part 5 very very very slowly with lots of browser refreshes in comparison to parts 1 through 4 - or something automated is hitting it for unknown reasons. The only theory I've come up with so far is that specific posting having a reference to 'princess of Alderan' as a Star Wars joke and wondering whether some star wars web scraper is stuck on it...

Automations, Bots and Malicious Attacks

Quite Honestly, the answer is YES.

Due to a noted increase in automated BOT traffic (some designed specifically to be malicious to TopShelf) we have had to keep the alert higher @ Cloudflare, as well as specifically lock off every route that does not go through Cloudflare. In fact, we have locked it so that BigCloset's Gateway servers can only speak to Cloudflare or a few other whitelisted networks directly. Our "cache bypass" address was handed around quite liberally in the past, and it became more than common knowledge as such those avenues have been routed through Cloudflare. There are no more bypasses.

It's not just BC/TS. SOL

It's not just BC/TS. SOL had to massively lock down as well, due to abusive scrapers.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

SOL?

Only meaning is "S**t Outta Luck", as far as I know.

They've not only been hammered maliciously, but there've been enormous amounts of bot scrapers and even clone sites set up to try to make bank off of other people's efforts.

Oh

That's a new one for me. I'll have to check it out, thanks.

This is new to me too. I hope I remember to explore the site. I've been doing a lot of exploring of fanfiction.net this year, particularly of Harry Potter stories. There are a LOT of good fem!Harry stories on this site.

Tch, tch

English fail. "Good" and "Harry Potter" are opposites and shouldn't appear in the same sentence. ;-)

I wouldn't call Harry Potter

I wouldn't call Harry Potter bad, per-se. It's just that it _is_ a 'Worst Witch' rip-off. ...sorry, Homage. Variations on a theme...
