Had an image pop into my head, something which may have been drawn already. Inigo Montoya and Wesley (dressed as the Dread Pirate Roberts) back to back with lightsabers in their left hands, smiling, surrounded by Sith and/or Jedi.

3 friends get pulled into a television

...and wind up getting bounced from film to series to infomercial, becoming various characters, with madcap, surreal and not always plot-accurate results ("There weren't any cowboys in Death of a Salesman, were there? And what's with the Cheese Guy?"). The narrator, though male on the outside world, becomes various female leads, mostly so your story could be posted here. Maybe she'd been about to come out as trans when they were so rudely interrupted by the Metareality Vortex or whatever it is. It's a gimmick that's been done more than once on various fantasy, superhero + science fiction shows with some silly contrived explanation for this happening ('Oh no! It's Mister Mxyztypklix... and Q!!"), it might even be an old cliche'd trope by now; but it could result in your blog's scenario happening at some point during their wacky mostmodern adventure. If there's another way I can't imagine it at the moment...

Movie Thieves

Daphne Xu's picture

In the late 1940s, someone made "The Bicycle Thief". Following that, in the late 1980s, someone made "The Icicle Thief". The latter is in the spirit of your comment/story/????. The filmmaker of the latter gets pulled into a television showing his film -- among numerous commercial breaks.

Then there was a precursor to the 21st-century "reality shows": "The Truman Show". There were probably so many others.
