This movie reflects a unique perspective... take a read.

“Movies about trans characters tend to focus on the gender transition process,” Sandoval said... “I wanted ‘Lingua Franca’ to start where these trans narratives usually end. Her transition is well behind her. That’s where I was really chronicling, in a fictional narrative, my own experiences as a trans woman living in Brooklyn.”

“One of the truly jarring emotional experiences I had when I transitioned was the first time I realized I was attracting male attention,” she said. “I felt flattered, and it gave me such a rush, but at the same time I became anxious and worried about my own safety and well-being, that feeling of being both powerful and vulnerable at the same time. I wanted to distill that and capture that feeling through the film, and through Olivia.”

..."to see someone in [the trans] community share a different kind of story, I think, is transforming not just for that community but for the world.”

They've also got a great documentary

that I just watched about the history of the portrayal of trans people
in films and TV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysbX6JUlaEc
called DISCLOSURE. I often check Netflix's LGBTQ selection
and usually see a lot of gay and lesbian films plus maybe one
transgender film or series that's about drag queens being outrageous.
Which there's not a damn thing wrong with but I don't think it should
be the ONLY kind trans fare available on their subscription service.
Hopefully this means they're widening the scope of their "T" selections...

So i finally watched Lingua Franca on Nutfakes + it was GREAT
but don't expect a rom com. Or a horrific tragedy either.
It was about smart choices on the part of the heroine,
which was refreshing; And I think that's vague enuff
not to constitute a major spoiler. I will definitely
be looking out for Ms. Sandoval's next film.
-Thanx for the recommendation; hugs, V
