So, here we all are, stuck at home, perhaps in isolation, or semi-isolation, not seeing our usual friends and neighbors. When I do go out, I'm wearing a pair of those blue nitrile gloves, and nobody can see my hands. So, why not?

I'm growing out my nails, keeping them properly shaped. Right now, I've got the subtlest of translucent pink polishes on them, and of course, the tips show through as white. They look good! Going through my cosmetics collection, I must have nearly a dozen different shades to play with, from clear to dark, purplish red, to black, with a couple of metallics in the mix. The longer we're stuck in, the longer my nails are going to get, and the more different shades they're going to be from week to week!

They're looking pretty good, and I find I already have to modify my typing technique slightly. I don't mind. It'll be interesting to adapt as they get even longer.

Any other stealthy crossdressers taking advantage of this opportunity?

I am not a stealth cross dresser........

As I transitioned full time nearly five years ago now, but I do find that since I have been unable to go into my office, that my nails have grown longer than usual. I attribute this to the fact that while working from home, rather than in my office, I spend more time typing on my I-pad rather than on a keyboard. This is less stressful on my nails, and hence it is easier to wear them longer without worrying about breakage or issues typing.

I was mildly surprised at this, as I also have spent more time than usual doing housework, general cleaning, and have even managed to get out and do some yard work - although the weather hasn’t been terribly cooperative there. We had snow Sunday night. Normally, these activities are not conducive to wearing my nails at longer lengths.

I also broke out some older colors of polish to use. Not being in the office, I decided to try out some of the less conservative colors I had acquired and never used before. Since I am not having to be the professional senior manager five days per week right now, I can be a little more adventurous with the colors. It’s been fun - but some of them definitely will not see the light of day again after this is over, lol.

Hopefully, as it appears we will be allowed to begin re-opening stores in Western PA within a few weeks, possibly Upstate and Western NY shortly after, and then working toward the major metro areas over the weeks after that, I will be back in my office or on the road again soon. That unfortunately means it is back to the more professional looking pinks, roses, and other conservative colors. No more purples, blues, and darker colors for me.

Gray Suede

Pippa - I've been doing the same but with a twist. I found a shade that as a fair skinned individual I can openly wear without getting pointed at or ridiculed. Gray Suede 705 by Revlon. It's a pinkish mocha and blends well with my skin tone; it may look as if I have slightly longer fingers but no one has noticed.

I figure that my hands are in constant motion and nobody sees, in a blur of motion, that my nails are shaped, painted and pretty. I don't wear gloves when I go out as they are not needed/required locally. It's been weeks now without any incidents. I forget that my nails look so nice.

My toes remain painted throughout the cold months and I can be more bold in choice of color as shoes and socks hide my 'hobby'. It's been warm and flip flops, sandals & being barefoot have become the norm. Gray Suede to my rescue!

Fingernails split

Dee Sylvan's picture

I was growing my nails but had to cut them back when a couple of nails split at the end. I wear blue gloves and my nails don't show through, I think. I found the idea on pinterest and add to them daily. I also wear eye makeup when I go out. With a ball cap and N95 mask, I am incognito, again, I think. It's been great to indulge while on lockdown, but I have to be careful because my kids keep checking in to make sure I'm ok.

Your nails look like a party!

Donna T's picture

Your nails look like a party! Confetti, eh? So you added colors over a several day period to get this effect? Very bold on your part. Pinterest has too many fun ideas... because of them I tried to give myself French nails by coloring my nail tips. It didn't turn out as good as their example. Do you do anything with your toes?

I assume your kids don't live with you but periodically check in. Tell them you have Brittle Nail Syndrome (BNS, which I just made up!) and that you MUST wear Hard As Nails polish to prevent spitting nails.

Eye makeup? I've been known to apply a few strokes of mascara but eye makeup would work in my situation.
