What If Tonight ...

I had this random thought this morning while I was getting ready to go out.

What if tonight you had a dream. The technical details of the dream doesn't matter that much, but in the dream you are faced with a choice you have to make. The choice is that you are presented with the, or several of the, main character(s) in the last story you read and the last story you worked on. (You get multiple choices on this because some stories have more than one main character.) You only get to pick one of them. When you wake up in the morning you have become that character with all the abilities, knowledge, skill, etc they have in the story.

Who would you become?

Hopefully

Hopefully, NOT Alexa. After what she did to Jun (a friend), rather than one of the bullies, I think I can safely say Alexa has gone off the deep end.

Samantha Justice has some good things going for her, but she's definitely got baggage from the Catholic Church, and the death of her family, so not sure I'd want to go there either.

Although all of them from N.L. Paradox's Awakened series have baggage, Aiden would definitely be a good choice. Especially after the latest book "Learning to Heal."

As of right now, it'd probably a choice between Aiden, The Claymore Empress, The Thunderhawk Jordan, or my Bianca from my Were Series.

Sleethr's Whisper

There's just something about her character that has resonated with me since I first read that story. I think it's how she is discovering more about who she is and what she can do every day. Not big, not flashy and struggling to overcome adversity. She always tries to do the right thing and is fiercely loyal.

That's really a hard one. I think I'd choose Ellen Matsumoto, but I'm not sure.

Cheat

I was having a hard time with this, because the last thing I read was a fantasy novel where all the characters had so much baggage that I wouldn't want to be any of them. Then I decided to cheat, and slightly rearrange the order in which I read things yesterday. Of all the characters I read yesterday, the one I would most like to be would be Elspeth's Eleanor.

Is cheating allowed?

Mine would have been recent stories I read or worked on, not the last of each. So I may have cheated too, but I like what my cheating resulted in, haha. Without cheating, it would be one of my Werecats, because I was working on a sequel just before I saw this blog.

LOL

I was wondering if anyone would try and cheat. * giggle *

I have to admit the urge crossed my own mind. There are characters of mine that I'd go for in a micro-second hands down.

However, no, you cannot cheat.

The last story I was working on when I made this blog post was a non-TG where a woman is slowly turning into a tree. The last one I read is the start of a new TG story where a person creates a female cat-girl character in an immersive VR-MMORPG, heavy on the cat influences.

It's a toss up which one I'd select depending on my mood. There are times where the solitude and peacefulness of being a tree can be quite compelling. However, I think that the majority of the time I'd probably go for the cat-girl.

I'm quite curious.

Is there any difference between "the solitude and peacefulness of being a tree" and "the solitude and peacefulness" of death?

-- Daphne Xu

Most definitely.

As a tree you are still alive and connected to nature and your surroundings. You still interact with your environment in a give and take relationship.

In death you are just fertilizer, worm food, and receive nothing back in return.

Subjectively?

Daphne Xu's picture

I mean subjectively, from the viewpoint of the person/tree itself. Would the tree have any sentience, consciousness, or the like?

Maybe one's mileage may vary. One (or more) of my stalled stories involves a tree transformation, and I'm portraying it as negative.

I would like to be Elaina

Elaina Hernandez isn't very fleshed out since she only appears in a fan fic short story, Airwolf: Rescue from Honduras. Elaina, a transgirl, starts out as a damsel in distress and then ends up being thrust into the lead when her skills are the only thing that can rescue the rescuers. She has to make a new life in America as a tech genius and a spy. She doesn't get a magical sex change like a lot of my heroines but she does hold patents and is now free to make the magic of money work for her plus a bit of spy craft as well. Now that Elaina has been rescued and no longer has to question if her life will end in the death camp, she can dream of what life as a spy will be for her.

That's a tough one

Given that I haven't had much reading time lately and the last story I was working on was My Super-powered Diary I think I'd have to choose Merida though. Sure she's only 13, but she's got cool powers, military training, and all that gorgeous red hair. Plus, thick Scottish accent for the win ;)

Don't take me too seriously. I'm just kitten around. :3

Reminded Me...

This post just now reminded me of a situation posed by one of my readers, based on a dream he had. Suppose I had to undergo whatever I put my characters through, perhaps in the purgatory of after-life?
