Yes this is instant replay of anthers well worded post but it bears repeating for those who may not have seen it the first time.

The Marks Brothers started out knowing squat nothing about entertainment. It was by a lot of practice and experience gained by night after night being booed off stage that lead to there later success. For a lot of us here ON BCTS it much the same. We are performers on this stage and like an actor when the house is quiet as a the sound of one hand clapping it can wound our creative ego's, sniff sniff sniff

I assume you're referring to

I assume you're referring to the Marx Brothers? Groucho, Harpo, Chico, Gummo, and Zeppo?

They _did_ know entertainment - in front of live audiences. What made most of their movies great was that they shot part of the movies, then traveled with them and performed out the movies in front of real audiences, then modified the movie as they went along (most of the movies. The ones they didn't were the worst received, so they went back to it for the last two)

They were from a family of artists, and apparently all worked in Vaudeville from a very early age.

Gummo stopped performing with the act before they did movies. Zeppo was in five? of the movies, mostly as a straight man/romantic lead. (Keep in mind that romantic lead didn't mean he was the lead of the movie.)

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Yes I do

I have had the pleasure of reading an out of print book HARPO Speaks were he gives a very color full view into his families life. The driving force in his side of the family came from his mother who had a brother who had made it into Vaudeville.

When they first started it was a earn while you learn time in Vaudeville, until they found their range with there comedy act. Harpo's silent pantomime act was a stroke of genius and luck.

My reference was to the fact there first successful movies worked from there tried and true stage career. Where the misleading appearance of chance was really from hours of on stage experience seeing what was funny with what timing.

There was a dry spell where a couple of there movies did not do so good so back to the road they went and discovered a entire world of funny again. The next movie flopped on opening night but the second night different crowd and the opposite reaction. If you can find a copy of the book let me know mine was my ex and they got custody of it but I got the kids.

Comments are a double edge sward but I can usually trust that people here on this board usually give reasonable comments. I use these as a indicator not a definer of my writing. I don't live for comments but like I say when the act is done the sound of crickets can be a mite bit discouraging.

With those with open eyes the world reads like a book

Their impact was amazing -

Their impact was amazing - even Gummo and Zeppo, who left performing. They ended up helping a lot of people get their start, including Jack Benny, I believe.

Chico? Mel Torme.

Groucho? His personal pianist was John Williams for a while. (I may have the wrong composer. I have to find my copy of "Hello, I Must Be Going" to double check.) Apparently when he got older, he still entertained, and liked to sing along to a pianist. (Even when he wasn't entertaining others).
