Doctor's Log

Author's note: On Facebook, I belong to a page called Transgender Trekkies. On that page, we have our own starship, the USS Jorgensen, and there I am known as Doctor Dorothy Bellion, AKA Doc Huggles. Just for fun, I made a excerpt of the doctor's log, and now I want to share it with you ...

Excerpt from the personal log of Doctor Dorothy (Dottie) Bellion:

Stardate: Classified.

The captain has authorized me to release a portion of my personal log, as there seems to be some confusion about just what I do aboard ship.

I understand that confusion. As long as we do not have an away mission ongoing, people may easily believe I have “nothing to do”, as our crew is normally exceptionally healthy. But even when the med bay has no patients in it, I have plenty to keep me occupied.

For example, I have a number of medical textbooks downloaded, and I review them often, especially those that focus on life forms other than humans. Having a good grasp of at least the basics of the various races who are represented on board means a faster response time if something happens, which can be the difference between life and death.

I also get posts from doctors on other ships about the things they have encountered, and what treatments were successful, if any. Although we are not having any away missions at the moment, it’s always better to be prepared than not.

And of course there is the huggle machine, my own little invention.

I wont tell how it works. That’s classified. But I can medically justify huggles as being a powerful tool in the psychological and physical recovery of people - that’s been proven.

Fortunately, the captain is in favor of them, and many of the crew have come to enjoy their “treatments”, so there isnt much issue on board this ship.

But the process does take some of my “free time”, what little I do have, so I appreciate it if no members of the crew try to tell me I have “nothing to do” ...

The end. (for now ...)

Doctor’s Log 2 “Surprise!”

Excerpt from the personal log of Doctor Dorothy “Dottie” Bellion:

Stardate: Classified.

I think a certain captain may have missed her calling in life, and should have been a counselor.

See, I had been feeling rather down lately. I had just marked another birthday, and afterward I found myself taking stock of my life, and wondering if I in fact really had accomplished anything of value in my time in this universe.

I thought I had done a good job of hiding my depression, but apparently, the captain noticed, and made plans to snap me out of it.

I found out about her plans when I got a call to come to the crew lounge.

When I arrived, I found someone had hung a banner saying “Thanks, Doctor Dot”, and most of the crew was there waiting for me.

They each took turns saying how I had helped them, and the captain went last, saying she considered me not only a valued member of the crew, but a personal friend.

There wasn’t much I could do but blush, and try and fight back tears, and then join the party.

So now it’s a few hours later, and I am recording my gratitude to all aboard this ship for making this old lady feel ... young again ...

End

Doctor’s log 3: “The anti-huggle”

Excerpt from the personal logs of Doctor Dorothy “Dottie” Bellion

Stardate: Classified.

I belong to the best crew in Starfleet.

I knew that, but in case I needed to be reminded, they proved themselves again.

It all started with why I invented the huggle generator in the first place. See, I suffered some ... traumatic experiences young, and one of the few things that helped me process that was the unwavering support of our family dog.

So as I grew up, I began trying to figure out a way to replicate that feeling once the dog had passed away.

Eventually, I joined Starfleet Medical, and became one of the top doctors on board our ship, but I continued working on my ideas every chance I could.

And I got a lucky, because my captain not only authorized me to work on my project, she gave me access to people from every department on the ship who might be able to contribute suggestions.

And so the huggle generator was born.

Then, a couple of days ago, I was reviewing information sent from Starfleet on trauma, and became badly triggered. So I went to the huggle generator to prescribe myself a huggle.

But something went terribly wrong.

Somehow, a psychic link developed between me and the huggle, and it became saturated with my trauma.

It became ... a dark huggle.

I’m sorry to say, I panicked.

But the crew of the Jorgensen came to my aid. They successfully captured the dark huggle before it could escape the med bay, and found a way to drain it of all darkness.

I was deeply embarrassed, and expected the captain to chew me out, but she was more concerned with my recovery from my flashback than anything else.

So as I said, I belong to the best crew in Starfleet, and am damn lucky to be here.

End
