My stinker of a daughter, gave me a kick again. “Emilia Lauran Wilson, are you wanting to get in trouble again. I can put your grounding back up till you are 21 again. I can do that as I am your mother.”
Then a voice from behind me. “So, my niece is acting up again, Huh.” Turing to see Lynn standing at the door.
Nodding, “Yep, she sure is. Working on getting her grounding back up to 21, again.”
“Well, Mom and Dad are going to take her off of it. You know”
“Doesn't matter, I am her mother and what I say goes.”
“Well grandma and grandpa will argue that.” Lynn giggled.
“I know that, too.” I joined her in her giggles.
The showers had shut off. A couple girls rushed out, towels wrapped around them. A mad scramble was heard as the last two got dressed.
The rest of the squad started to show up. By the time the tardy bell rang. All three squads were there. The varsity squads uniform was different than the Junior varsity, and the freshman was different still. The 6 captains and co-captains uniform had a white V patch on the left upper arm. A single one for Co-captain and two for the captain. Shelby, Lynn, Christine, Molly, Marie and Jill. Talked with Mrs. Masterson. Maybe a final discussion on how things are going to be at this afternoons pep rally.
While the rest of us waited in the gym. The custodians were getting the gym ready for the rally. Pulling out the bleachers. All the coaches, captains and co-captains came out and got with their respective squads.
Me and the rest of the girls on the varsity Cheer squad. Followed Mrs. Masterson and Ms. Gorman. Let us know what is going to happen at the Pep rally. The varsity squad will be the main cheer-leading. However, both the JV and the Freshman squads will be cheering with us. Most of the time. The Freshman squad will cheer in front of their respective class. The JV mostly in front of the 10th and 11 while the Varsity will mostly be with the seniors.
After the meeting I got with the other 2 fliers, Amy and Gail. We discussed our timing, and which of the others will toss or lift us. While I preferred to only have Lynn or any on the AACT, do the tossing. I had to let the other girls do some too. With Lynn, I knew her strength, That she could really get me some air. It really made a difference when the AACT did its thing. Our throws were legendary. Back to the varsity squad.
All three of the squads formed up The captain and co-captain stood in front. Then the other eight girls in two rows behind them. Being the varsity had one extra. Our back row had five girls. My position was the center in the back line. While I was the shortest one on the squad. Mrs. Masterson put me here to kind of hide me. As the first stunt. Was where I was surrounded, then tossed. My aerial was a leg over. As I was performing the other girls would spread out. Caitlin and Becky were my catchers. I landed in a cradle, Then they flip me backwards. I come off in a back handspring. Lining up we chant, LET'S GO, RANGERS. Then a couple more stunts.
Then audience participation, We will yell. RIDGEMORE the crowd will yell back RANGERS. This part is done with all three squads. We hope to raise the roof here.
A few more stunts, me, Amy, and Penny would do a stunt run. The other two will start at opposite ends of the gym. I would start in the middle, we timed it so I crossed the other two. I usually do a leg over. With my program training. I have the ability to push off higher to clear, both Penny and Amy. All the timing was up to me.
An couple older guys and a slightly younger lady came in. They talked to Miss, Gorman, and Mrs. Masterson. I saw them point towards me. Mrs. Masterson told them something. The 3 new people nodded, an understanding. I glanced over at Lynn. She mouthed, Principals.
About 1:30 the students started coming in. The freshman were seated above the sophomores. The Juniors and Seniors across from them. Of course the varsity squad was in a line in front of the seniors, the JV in front of the Juniors and the Freshman Squad were in front of the Sophomores and Freshman. We all waited in ready position. Like a military parade rest. Feet shoulder width apart and hands behind our backs, palms open. Facing forward, and cheer smiles on.
As the seniors took their seats. I could hear the comments. Not only about my teammates, but a few directed at me. The little girl, the kid, Etc. a small group actually got quite explicit on what they wanted to do with me. My mind telling me, it would only take a couple seconds and they wouldn't be talking for a while. Their jaws wired shut. However, I just stood there and smiled.
As I watched the 4 of them sat in the second row. Right behind the cheerleaders reserved seats. OH, goody. I may be able to inflict a bit of pain. I know that Lynn heard them. As she was standing 2 spaces down from me.
One of them, laid his head on our seat and wiped his face. “Making a place for you to sit. Sweets.” of course the rest laughing their asses off.
One of the older teachers saw and spoke up. “IS there a problem, Mr. Tucker?”
Answering, “No problem, Mrs. Stillwell.”
“then sit back in your seat.” She moved off.
He did as instructed. A few more cat calls but nothing important. About 1:45 it seemed like all the students were there. All 3 squads just waited in ready position. Little miss Emilia was quiet, in my belly.
At 2pm the principal stepped up to the microphone. He stood their for a moment. The students slowly quieted down.
With a smile. “Good Afternoon, Ridgemore.”
The crowd cheered. We cheerleaders shook our pompoms.
“Welcome to the first pep rally of the school year. Are we ready to cheer our football team on to a victory against Northville this afternoon.”
We did the pledge of allegiance, with the pep band playing. We stood at attention and covered our heart.
Again cheers and pompom shaking.
We kept an eye on Mrs. Masterson. As she sat on the side lines ready to give us the cue to start a routine. All of the 3 cheer teams knew the signals that told us which one to do. Everything from basic sideline cheers to our show routine.
The principal continued. Introducing the 3 coaches. The final one taking the microphone.
Coach Andraus was a large colored man. While he spoke to the assembly, the varsity Cheerleaders moved to form a gauntlet by the guys locker room door.
The coach started to introduce the Football team. As the players came out we shook our pompoms. Once the captain Kyle Mismiler came running out.
Me and Lynn did a tumbling run. In front of the seniors. Both of us were in perfect sync both ending with a back twisting tuck.
That got miss Emilia moving some but she wasn't upset. The whole student body let out a cheer. Once the rest of the team took their spots. I noticed that Coach Andraus seemed a little miffed at something. I didn't worry about it.
We took our seats. All of us sitting in ready position. After the football captain said a few words. Principal Woods took the microphone. She was a vice- principal. Shelby has told us that she takes no crap from anyone. She will step in the middle of a fight between the biggest kids in school. To break it up.
I heard a yelp and one of the kids with Mr Tucker was holding his hand. Lynn looked down at me and smiled. I smiled back and gave a very slight nod. I would guess that he tried to do something and was stopped.
The cheer teams took to the floor once principal Woods was done. The main principal Dr. Rossmund brought the pep rally to an end. However it wasn't over for us. We had to wait till just about everyone had left. Before joining Mrs. Masterson.
As we joined her. Coach Andraus made a bee line towards Coach Masterson.
“Coach Masterson, May I have a word with you?”
The two coaches moved away from us. Even the JV and Freshman cheer coaches watched. As Coach Andraus talked to our coach. He was upset about something, and he was quite animated talking to Mrs. Masterson. Once he seemed to finish. Coach Masterson laid into him. Once she was finished, she just casually joined us.
“What was that all about?” Miss Gorman asked.
“I'll tell you. Come on girls. Over by the girls locker room.”
Once we moved, “Gather around.”
We all moved in close to Coach Masterson. We got in close that we were actually touching one another. Hey, girls don't have the hang up boys do.
Kneeling down. “Well, girls. Coach Andraus was upset that we upstaged his players. When Allison and Lynn did their run after the team came out. I knew it would. That is why I had those two do it.”
All of the girls had a big smile on their faces.
“I believe that we have the girls to go far this year. Coach Andraus has always had a low opinion regarding the sport of Cheerleading. Thinking it is not pysically demanding as say football is. We know better, right girls?
“yes,” We all yelled.
This time Mrs. Masterson smiled, as did Miss Gorman.
“OK, being this is a Varsity game, the freshman and JV squads are excused.”
Most all of the JV and Freshman squads left. Only the captain and co-captain of both stayed. The cheer rules state that the captains and co-captains are required to be at all games. So, Lynn and Shelby will be at the Freshman and JV games. As the other four will be at our games.
Mrs. Masterson talked to the cheer captains, I just waited on the bleachers, sitting all prim and proper. When they finished. “See you girls at 4:30.”
Looking at my recent purchase, my gold Minnie Mouse watch, That I picked up when we were at Disney. Minnie said it was 3:20 so we had a little over an hour.
Lynn and Shelby came over to me. “We've got an hour to kill.” Lynn told me what I already knew.
“Not really worth going home.” I mentioned. Both of them agreed.
“Since the custodians will be putting up the bleachers soon. Maybe we can go to the resource room. A little more comfortable.”
“Sure,” Me and Lynn answered.
Since most of the squad was still in the gym. “We're going to the resource room want to join us?” The three of us lead the way. It was sight seeing all 17 of us walking down the hall. All in perfect step, our cheer smiles on. There were 2 guys that walked into door ways. And one run into a locker. We loved it.
In the resource room their was enough comfy places to sit. I told Lynn that I was going to take a little nap. Miss Emilia was making me tired.
I found an out of the way chair and just crashed. I told myself that I wanted to wake up in 40 minutes. I laid my head on the arm and that was it for this mother to be.
Waking up at 10 after 4 just like I wanted too. I met with Lynn, telling her that her niece was a little stinker and I had to use the ladies room. Luckily I spotted one just outside the resource room. Again I just sat down and the dam burst. While I love my daughter, there is something to be said about being pregnant.
I made sure everything was perfect. Just as all of the AACT does. I just needed a touch up on my lipstick and adjust my pony tail.
