Looking for an Old story

At his mothers funeral he comes into possession of her sword. Turns into an Amazon warrior and he rebuilds the nation. (I know it is not Amazon by Itinerant) I'm thinking the title is 'The Last of the Amazons' but I cannot find it under that title :(
