OK, so I now have two contributing authors writing stories for Smoky Corners. I consider crazypagangurl and Leila friends, and accomplished authors in their own rights, and am DEEPLY HONORED both chose to write such marvelous works that add depth to the universe I designed.
That being said, I must address something that will prove crucial to the survival of the Smoky Corners universe:
As sole creator of the universe, I have been afforded certain rights and responsibilities regarding ownership and copyrights of materials published within this universe. It is a responsibility I DO NOT take lightly.
Any work added to the universe falls, effectively, under the "DERIVATIVE WORKS" clause of copyright law. As a result, I am empowered with certain rights regarding YOUR HARD WORK. This is a responsibility I neither expected, nor wanted.
Being an author myself, I realize just how much time and effort one must expend to develop a story with depth and merit. I AM WILLING to grant ANY AND ALL CONTRIBUTORS the power that I have been afforded, FREE OF CHARGE AND WITHOUT LIABILITY, provided a few simple rules are followed beforehand. They are, simply:
1) Please PM me with a story outline/synopsis BEFORE posting to the site. By doing this, I will be able to determine if the story meets canon, or if it is better suited to be non-canonical, and given the right to develop into a story in its own right.
2) Allow me time to communicate back with you with an answer to your request. Not only am I an author on this site, but I enjoy reading the works of the other multi-talented members of this site. I also suffer from serious, LIFE-THREATENING ailments, and am not always afforded the luxury of having ready access to BC or my email.
3) Please keep your attitude in check when dealing with me. I'm a pretty open and flexible person, but do have off days, as do most people. I try to treat my contributors with the utmost respect, and only request that I be afforded the same
I do not believe this is asking too much. Just common courtesy. I'm working with a few of the more skilled contributors of this site to work up a suitable boilerplate to help protect your rights, without severely impeding my own.. Please bear with me.
Thanks!
