Looking for a story

The name contains something like flames or Phoenix and is the story of a kid that comes from a mountain where everyone gains a familiar and they start to gain traits from their familiar. His familiar is female and every time he uses her power he becomes more like her. He travels with a girl his age two viking guys and an older guy. Any help would be much appreciated.
